His daughter was completely broken by her father's words. She became more and more reclusive, and extremely depressed. Until the guilt became to much that she committed suicide in her dorm room. It's hinted his daughter was a writer or a poet, as it was seen an officer holding a sort of diary relating to her rape. Officer Lafferty, was completely shaken and influenced by Shania's death that she went to the DA. But the district attorney didn't believe she had enough to prove Mike's guilt as a rapist. Still feeling guilt she couldn't bring justice, she went to Tessie Bartram and left her a hand gun for protection, should Mike attack her.
