Tyler Cage is a character from "Colors". In 1945, he was a professional pitcher in the major leagues.
During the Negro Leagues Major Leagues Game, Tyler was up against Clyde Taylor. He tried to demoralize Clyde with racist taunts, but the tactic failed. Later, Tyler's son Troy pulled a prank on Clyde, and ran to tell his father after Clyde and Joe Crumbly disciplined him. Tyler saw Clyde with Esther Davis as well, and later met with Clyde. Contrary to Troy's expectation, Tyler complimented his skill, shook his hand when asked to, and ordered his son to apologize, which Troy reluctantly did so. Tyler was also aware that Esther was really black, but for unknown reasons he kept her secret and presumably ordered Troy not to reveal it as well.
50 years later, Tyler died. In 2005 when Joe was investigated for Clyde's murder, he tried to point the finger at Tyler, who was long dead.
