Dusty Ray was a member of the Sugar Boys, being its bassist, and Truck Sugar's killer. He was a heroin addict who fueled his habit by pawning off stolen guitars.
Dusty shot Truck dead after he decided to break off an agreement he had with Edie Lowe to tour with her; Edie told Truck he'd have to leave behind his country music and shift towards pop, something Truck was not willing to do. Dusty wanted the deal to go through as it would mean he would finally have a steady cash inflow to fuel his addiction. However, he showed remorse after shooting Truck.
